Stuart McMillan MSP has today welcomed support from Greenock based housing association Cloch in his call to name a street in the town after sports broadcaster Arthur Montford.
Last month the Greenock based MSP called for Montford to be honoured in his hometown with the naming of a new street after him.
In a letter to Mr McMillan, Cloch Housing advise that they would have no objection to considering a street name as some form of tribute in a future development.
Mr McMillan said:
“I am delighted that Housing Associations in Greenock have supported my call to honour Arthur Montford with a street named in his memory.
“Since raising the idea I have been contacted by several people wishing to show their support to the idea and also offer suggestions for possible names. Stramash Street being the most humorous one to date.
“The decision will now ultimately rest with the local authority in Inverclyde and of course Arthur Montford’s family.
“Arthur Montford was a national treasure who never forgot his Greenock roots and his beloved Morton. I really do hope that this idea will now get off the ground.
