Stuart McMillan MSP (SNP) and Member of the Devolution (Further Powers) Committee has today (Thursday) spoke in a parliamentary debate on the committee’s report on proposals to devolve further powers to Scotland and scrutiny of the UK Government’s draft legislative clauses.
Speaking during the debate, Mr McMillan argued the draft clauses don’t go anywhere near far enough for SNP members, and we will continue to press for more powers to come to this Parliament.
Mr McMillan also added:
“The committee spoke with one voice on the issues surrounding the Smith Commission proposals, as well as the draft clauses published on 22nd January.
“In various areas of our report we have highlighted that the draft clauses do not meet the spirit and substance of the Smith Commission recommendations.
“Therefore, it’s now up to the UK Government to strengthen these clauses and live up to the Smith Commission and who knows, even go further than Smith.”
