Greenock based MSP, Stuart McMillan expresses his delight that Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow has taken on 15 new apprentices. The original plan was for 10 to be employed and trained but due to the quality and enthusiasm of the applicants the company exceeded their intake by 50%.
Stuart McMillan MSP said:
“I welcome the increased numbers of apprentices that have been taken on by Ferguson Marine in Port Glasgow.
“To employ an extra 50% because of the quality of applicants was so high is a positive sign and excellent news for those seeking a career in shipbuilding in Inverclyde.
“This also shows that the company are investing in the long term future of the yard and Inverclyde and I wish them every success.”
Liam Campbell, Managing Director of Ferguson Marine added:
“I am greatly encouraged by the number of people from the local area interested in working at Ferguson Marine.
“We recruit trades in line with our current needs via S1 Jobs website, Linkedin and word of mouth. Anyone interested should send their CV’s to the HR department.
“If we do not have any vacancies at present but feel that their skills and experience are suitable we will keep their CV’s on file for use at a later date.”
