The SNP Scottish Parliamentary Group held its Annual General Meeting on Monday 29 June and local MSP, Stuart McMillan, was elected as its Deputy Convener.
Stuart succeeds Sandra White MSP who stood down.
“I am delighted to have the support of Parliamentary colleagues, many of whom asked me to stand for the role. My colleague Angela Constance MSP will be an excellent Group Convener and I will work with and support her in group matters in what is an important time in politics.
“I would like to pay tribute to both Bruce Crawford MSP and Sandra White MSP who are first class Parliamentarians and who stood down for differing reasons. Bruce and Sandra were also keen that a new team is in place a year before next year’s Scottish Parliamentary election.
“I have been an MSP for 13 years and provided assistance and guidance to many colleagues over that period, particularly to newly elected MSPs. As a team player, I have always been happy to support the group but that has never stopped me from challenging either.
“I was delighted that many colleagues asked me to stand for the role and I will continue to work hard to maintain that support. We have an important year ahead.”
