Local MSP welcomes emergency funding for struggling local music venues

SNP GOVERNMENT HANDS OUT £2.2 MILLION TO SUPPORT GRASSROOTS MUSIC

MSP for Greenock and Inverclyde, Stuart McMillan, has welcomed news that McGeoch’s Music Bar will receive emergency funding support from the SNP Government.

Launched earlier this month, the £2.2 million fund is aimed at providing grassroots live music venues with the emergency funds to help address the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and prevent closure.

McGeoch’s will receive support worth £31,000 from the Grassroots Music Venues Stabilisation Fund.

Commenting, SNP MSP Stuart McMillan said:

“Inverclyde’s live music scene has taken a real beating during this pandemic – with most venues having to keep their doors closed since March.

“We all want to see music venues reopen again as soon as it’s safe to do so, but until that’s possible this funding will hand these businesses a lifeline and ease some of the financial pressures they face.

“There’s a long road to recovery for the sector, but with the continued backing of the SNP Government, I’m sure we can secure a bright future for the area’s music venues.”
